After Years, Buckingham Palace FINALLY Exposes TRUE Identity Of Archie and Lilibet

After years of speculation and secrecy, Buckingham Palace has officially confirmed the true identity of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s children: Archie is now Prince Archie of Sussex and Lilibet is Princess Lilibet of Sussex—titles they automatically received when their grandfather King Charles III became monarch in September 2022.

The palace updated its official website on March 9, 2023, ending six months of confusion about whether the children would be recognized as prince and princess. Before this update, Archie and Lilibet were still listed as Master Archie Mountbatten-Windsor and Miss Lilibet Mountbatten-Windsor on the royal line of succession website.

The titles come from a 1917 Letters Patent by King George V, which states that children of any sovereign and children of sons of any sovereign shall have the style of Royal Highness with the title of prince or princess. As King Charles III’s grandchildren, Archie and Lilibet automatically qualify.

However, there’s a crucial twist: because Harry agreed to stop using his HRH styling when he stepped back from royal duties in 2020, neither Archie nor Lilibet will be referred to as His Royal Highness or Her Royal Highness. A palace source explained, “The use of the style HRH would come through their father and the Duke of Sussex’s HRH is in abeyance”.

Archie, now 3, and Lilibet, now 1, are sixth and seventh in line to the throne respectively, behind their uncle Prince William and cousins Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis.

The confirmation follows Meghan formally addressing Lilibet as Princess for the first time in a statement confirming her christening in California in March 2023. Lilibet was christened as Princess Lilibet Diana in her home by the Archbishop of Los Angeles, with godfather Tyler Perry and Meghan’s mother Doria Ragland present.

This official recognition marks the end of years of uncertainty about Archie and Lilibet’s royal status, confirming they are indeed prince and princess—just not with the full HRH styling their parents once held.
